Speaker Information

Dr Richard (Ric) Berman

Ric researches and speaks on English, Irish, and American Freemasonry, with a focus on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He has written numerous journal articles and some ten books, and has given keynote talks worldwide.

A Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Ric holds a master’s degree in economics and a doctorate in history from the University of Cambridge and the University of Exeter, respectively, following which he spent two years post-doctoral research at the University of Oxford.

Ric has been a Freemason for over forty years and has twice been the Prestonian Lecturer. He holds Grand Rank in the United Grand Lodge of England and is a past master of three English lodges including Quatuor Coronati Lodge, the premier lodge of Masonic research. He also chairs the Quatuor Coronati Correspondence Circle (QCCC), the oldest Masonic Research Society in the world.

Ric is also an American Freemason, a member or honorary member of lodges in five states. He is also a Fellow of the Philalethes Society and a member of the Society of Blue Friars whose purpose is to recognize Masonic authors.

Tony Harvey

W Bro. Tony Harvey is a researcher, writer and speaker who has been a Freemason for thirty-five years.

He has held Provincial roles in the secretarial, membership, mentoring, learning & development, charity and communication areas of Freemasonry. He is a grand officer in the Craft, Royal Arch and Mark and in two other Orders within English Freemasonry.

Tony held United Grand Lodge of England‘s (UGLE’s) prestigious Prestonian Lectureship in 2012 with his lecture, “Scouting & Freemasonry: two parallel organizations?” He has delivered his lecture on more than 130 occasions in every Province in England & Wales and to a number of overseas Districts and foreign Grand Lodges.

Tony conceived, and was the main author of, United Grand Lodge of England’s (UGLE) Members’ Pathway, which the Past Pro Grand Master described as a “game changer.” The Members’ Pathway provided Lodges with tools and guidance to attract, introduce and engage new members. In 2025 it was combined with the Royal Arch’s Archway to form Building Together.

In late 2022, Lewis Masonic published Tony’s book, The Seven Habits of Highly Successful Lodges, with a foreword written by the then Deputy Grand Master of UGLE, RW Bro. Sir David Wootton.
